Seems like there is still a cold war going between the telecom companies. Everything suddenly changed and the telecom industry witnessed a new revolution after the launch of Jio. Last year, after its announcement and launch, Jio became an overnight success. By March 2017, Jio added more than 100 million customers into India’s fastest growing network. Jio had a magical effect on the monopoly of the telecom companies and almost all of them were forced to cut down their tariff rates to prevent customers from switching network. BSNL introduced a new Chauka 444 plan to counter Jio , here are the details :
Chauka 444 Plan: 4GB Data Per Day For 90 Days
BSNL has now introduced Chauka 444 plan that is seen as a counter to Jio’s Summer Surprise offer. Under this plan, a user will get 4GB data per day for 90 days. This will cost a one time fee of Rs. 444, and as a reason was named as Chauka 444 plan. This plan is only for the prepaid customers. Also, BSNL has no 4G network and will give 4GB data per day as 3G Data under Chauka 444 plan. Earlier, BSNL also introduced STV 339 Plan that offers 3GB 3G data per day.
Jio is presently offering 1GB/2GB data per day under Summer Surprise offer. Under this plan, the subscriber who enroll for Rs. 309 plan gets 1 GB 4G data for 84 days and 2GB 4G data for Rs. 509. Jio also offered additional 20% data to the buyers of Reliance Retail’s LYF smartphones. Almost all the telecom companies have reduced the data tariff and are providing unlimited calling.
Jio Still Adding Customers in Millions
Jio reportedly added around another 3.9 million customers in the month of April. Reliance Jio added around 16 million customers in the month of September 2016, followed by a huge customer base of 19.6 million customers in October. According to a TRAI report, Bharti Airtel has around 276.5 million customers, that is maximum for any operator. Vodafone was next in line with around 210 million customers and Idea Cellular is third with around 196 million customers. Jio has presently around 112 Million customers and is presently India’s largest mobile broadband provider. It is followed by Bharti Airtel with around 52.5 million internet subscribers. Vodafone and Idea have around 39.76 million and 24.09 million subscribers respectively.
Though Chauka 444 plan offers great data tariff, yet the lack of 4G data on BSNL may disappoint the users. Also, Jio is still lacking way behind in terms of cellular network connectivity and people still don’t prefer Jio as their primary sim.
